Comprehensive Exam

Successful oral health starts with a solid at-home brushing and flossing routine and regular dental check-ups. Dr. Crowley Correll encourages each patient to visit our office every six months (or more frequently) so we can care for your oral health.

When you first visit our dental office, we perform a comprehensive exam using modern technology. The exam process is non-invasive, comfortable, and very informative for both our dentist and more importantly, you. Here is what to expect during a typical dental exam at our Charlotte office:

  • Consultation with a question-and-answer discussion
  • Visual exam of teeth, gums, neck, and mouth
  • Intraoral cameras to show you what is happening in your mouth
  • Digital x-rays (faster, safer, and 90% less radiation)
  • Discussion of Dr. Crowley Correll’s findings
  • Creation of a treatment plan

Your exam will be carried out in a warm, friendly environment, where your needs are the priority. We are the champions at making you feel comfortable and take the time to explain each step of your visit.

Oral Hygiene Care

Dental hygiene can have a lasting effect on the overall health of both your mouth and your body. Dr. Crowley Correll teams with our dental hygienist to provide you with expert advice and a hygiene routine designed around your personal needs.

After your dental check-up, our Charlotte dentist may recommend a professional cleaning with the hygienist. This cleaning removes any plaque buildup and looks for early signs of periodontal disease (also known as gum disease). Your cleaning is quick, gentle, and very effective – plus, we polish up your teeth for a beautiful finish.

Throughout your partnership with our practice, we make it our goal to help you maintain a beautiful smile. Our advice is always kind and gentle; we never lecture or judge. Rather, we want you to feel comfortable enough to ask us any questions and discuss concerns you may have.

Oral Cancer Screening

Did you know that close to 53,000 Americans will be diagnosed with oral cancer this year? (Oral Cancer Foundation). This disease will kill a fifth of those people unless it is caught in its early form more often. As a dental office, we don’t just keep your teeth nice and white, we care about your whole health too. By performing annual oral cancer screenings, we are able to catch symptoms of cancer early and help you combat this disease.

During your exam, Dr. Crowley Correll looks for:

  • Raised bumps or sore lesions
  • White or red patches on the gums, tongue, tonsil, or mouth
  • Difficulty chewing or swallowing
  • Numbness of the tongue
  • Unexplained bleeding

Many of these symptoms can be caused by less serious problems but our expert dentist is able to diagnose if it might be oral cancer. She uses biopsies and modern equipment to identify cancer early. By doing so, we are able to discuss treatment options and help you overcome the disease.

If you are diagnosed with oral cancer, we work with you side-by-side to get the ideal care you need and deserve. Please ask about our oral cancer screenings during your next appointment.

Nightguards

Do you grind your teeth during the night? Are you constantly experiencing headaches or jaw pain? You may be suffering from bruxism or TMJ disorder.

Bruxism occurs when a person grinds their teeth through the night and can cause worn down teeth, jaw pain, and other dental problems. Our experienced dentist can help with a nightguard that is custom-made to prevent your teeth from grinding.

TMJ disorder relates to your temporomandibular joint, which connects your skull to your jaw. Occasionally, this joint can become worn, causing painful symptoms such as headaches and jaw-popping. If you are experiencing this, our nightguards can help hold your jaw in position during times of rest.

Both our nightguards are created using impressions of your teeth. The comfortable fit always for peaceful sleep and prevention of worsening symptoms.
